Live Online Class vs. Recorded Class vs. Offline Class

Live Online Class vs. Recorded Class

E-learning is a bittersweet phrase that has gained incredible momentum since the pandemic started. Before that, online education was little in action. As a result of the pandemic, many things went online, from classes to offices and even grocery shopping.

To describe briefly, live online classes and recorded classes are the two types of online education that take place at the convenience of the teachers and students. At the same time, offline education refers to the traditional methods of teaching where the students and teachers are present face-to-face.

All three types of learning systems have their advantages and disadvantages. There has been a lot of debate on the best education system, and the conclusion seems overwhelming.

If you are trying to settle on an option and know the best learning mode, let us first understand the difference between all three.

The Difference Between Live Online, Recorded Online And Offline Classes

Some say offline classes are better than online ones, and a few support recorded learning classes. Some say that if a student wants to learn, they can learn in any mode, and all the learning systems are the same.

#1. Learning Location Convenience

The first upside of signing up for an online course, whether live or recorded, is that you can attend the lessons from any location. There is no prerequisite for online courses, and you don’t have to travel to a different location.

You only need an active internet connection and a device from which you will attend your classes to get started. For the recorded classes, you can preload them and watch them afterwards, even when you don’t have an active internet connection. Online learning allows you to configure the comfortable corner of your home peacefully.

Such flexibility cannot be enjoyed with offline classes. Students will have to report to a certain location where the types will be conducted. However, the positive of offline classes is that nothing is required to take up the classes—neither an internet nor a device. You are physically present in the class, doing face-to-face interactions.

#2. Better Focus

Most of us find it challenging to focus on learning things, leading to poor performance. Without focus, students also lose interest in learning and find it difficult to complete the program. Online learning tools are interactive and effective in capturing students’ attention.

Be it online live classes or recorded lessons, students find it easy to push through the portions. Also, technological advancements have made it easy to cover vast lessons in a shorter time. The offline mode needs more tools and representation of the lessons, and therefore, it may be difficult for the students to remember everything in theory.

Live Online Class vs. Recorded Class

#3. Resolution Of Doubts

Students will have a lot of doubts when learning something new. Resolving doubts is only possible when the student and the teacher are in the class. Be it an online live class or an offline class, students can get all their doubts cleared quickly by asking their teacher about the solution. With a pre-recorded online class, students can access the provided content only and may not find answers to their questions.

For this reason, some do not favour pre-recorded lessons as it doesn’t help facilitate instant doubt resolutions. The students either have to reach out to their mentors through email or wait for the next live class to resolve the issues.

#4. Highly Skilled Teachers And Mentors

If you want to learn a course from a faculty in a different state or country, you will have to relocate to that location or take online classes. The teacher and students must be at the same location for offline classes or physical learning.

With the learning system going online these days, opting for courses from a college located in a different place is easy. Students can easily learn from some of the best teachers in the industry. They can also take up their recorded lessons, which are less effective than offline or live online classes.

With live online classes, students from across the globe are placed in the classroom of the best teachers.

#5. Networking Prospects

With online live classes, you get to network with a large group of students from across the globe. You will find students who are the same as you and who can be easily approached for combined discussions and studies. Some websites offering online classes also have forums where you can clear your doubts.

Students get great exposure since they meet a large group of people. It helps them seek exponential growth, and they also get to compete with some of the sharpest minds. Technological advancements and this form of learning have reached even the remotest part of the world.

By now, you must have had an understanding of the different learning system types.

Let us now go over the pros and cons of the two education modes.

Online Education

Technology has permanently altered the online mode of education, and it has now developed as a versatile teaching approach. With online classes, students get to access the entire study material from the comfort of their homes. Another good part of online learning is that they learn at their own pace.

Besides imparting education and knowledge, online education helps students develop their time management skills and self-discipline abilities. The key to mastering a course through online education is that you should gauge the best platform.

As already discussed, both pre-recorded and live online classes fall under the online mode of education. We are talking about the pros and cons of both types as a whole.

Pros

#1. Affordable: After the online classes have taken hold, education has become accessible to all. It has helped reduce the price of transportation fees, uniforms, and also of extracurricular activities. This has helped make education affordable for the students.

#2. Flexible Schedule And Environment: Online and Offline learning systems have discrepancies that cannot be refuted by anything. Online classes offer flexibility to the students to study in the environment of their choice. They get to choose an environment that suits their needs best.

#3. Self-Discipline: Independent study at flexible times has helped students become more disciplined. They now have a sense of managing their time. Online classes have taught them to manage their schedule well and create a balance between their classes, homework, classwork, and other activities.

Cons

#1. Technical Issues: A major drawback of online learning is technical issues. It can happen at any point, and students may lose interest mid-way or get disconnected from the classes. Challenges with poor internet often happen. Furthermore, small towns or similar rural communities may need help to maintain a steady internet.

#2. More Screen Time: Screen time management is a critical challenge that students have to overcome. With online classes, students must spend more time on-screen. Long screen time is harmful to human eyes and also to overall health.

Live Online Class vs. Recorded Class

Offline Education

It is an initial learning method that enables students and teachers to interact in person with each other. Though online learning has taken over conventional learning and is thought to be the future, it must partially replace offline classes. Offline education stays away from all technical concerns and helps students maintain a normal schedule.

Pros

#1. Greater Interaction Opportunities: Offline learning system enables students to interact well with their peers and also with the lecturers. Also, it gives them ample opportunities to participate in more activities that take place in their classes.

#2. Hands-On-Practice: Usually, with online classes, students get little hands-on practice in several areas and subjects. Offline mode makes it possible for them to comprehend the matter and context better.

#3. Focussed Individual Attention: Teachers give the students their undivided attention when they attend offline classes. This helps students pick up things well and perform better in their exams. The students get to clear their doubts and have more clarity of the subject matter.

#4. Few Distractions: While teaching in offline mode, lecturers and professors only concentrate on teaching. This ensures that the students get fewer distractions when they study. Their entire focus is on the subject being taught in the class.

Cons

#1. Rigid Schedule: The timing for offline classes is fixed, so the students need more flexibility. Working professionals who opt for higher studies often drop out of the courses.

#2. Travel Expenditure: Usually, the top institutions offering classes are located in the same place. Students will have to travel to that location to attend their classes. It costs them both money and time.

#3. Lack Of Cutting-Edge Technology: It is highly recommended that you should learn about technology breakthroughs. Online classes teach individuals to use technology efficiently.

#4. Expensive: Offline mode is a costly mode as it adds to the cost of boarding, tuition, travel, and much more.

As stated, the discussion about which mode of study is better between online lectures and offline classes is everlasting.

Research revealed that 54% of students prefer live sessions, be it online or offline is better, to pre-recorded classes. Another 40% said that they are comfortable with learning videos as well, that are pre-recorded. They say that with the recorded classes, they enjoy the flexibility of learning from anywhere and at any time.

The other 6% said they are okay with both forms of learning. The same research concluded that students’ performance with live classes is 27% better than when they studied through the recorded sessions.

The Bottom Line

To conclude, even though students find pre-recorded classes more convenient, the significance of human interaction outweighs the convenience. A mentor’s guidance is critical for the students to learn their lessons effectively and have better clarity on a topic. Also, offline classes give them the perk of getting their queries solved at the earliest.

No matter what learning system you are in favor of, the key factor is the instilling of knowledge. It should last long, and the students should get the concept clear to apply it better in the real world.
